I call these sessions "Chosen Family" because I know that family can take many different forms, and can sometimes include far more than just the people you're related to! These sessions cover everything from couples, throuples and family photography; photoshoots with your friends or housemates; photos of a group or community you're part of; and even pet photography!
I favour a natural style for my portrait photography, most commonly using outdoor spaces and natural lighting. Posed photos can be lovely, but I think emotion is what makes a truly gorgeous portrait. I prefer to capture people laughing, reacting to one another or lost in a particular moment in time. Past sessions have included a 60s-style photoshoot in a laundrette with a group of friends, a hike up a mountain for some adventurous couple's photography, and a two month long project which involved me taking portraits of people through their windows while they were stuck at home during the covid-19 pandemic.
One of my main priorities when I take photos is to ensure that my clients feel comfortable. I understand that being in front of a camera can feel anxiety inducing, which is why I take the time to get to know you and help you relax. All my photo sessions begin with a 30 minute consultation. This gives us the time to get comfortable around each other, will help me understand more about who you are and what you want from your photographs, and also gives you a space to talk through any specific anxieties you might have about being on camera.
Standard rate £70 | Reduced rate £40
This includes a 30 minute consultation and an hour of shooting. It also covers travel within Bristol and guarantees at least 10-15 finished photographs. For more information, please browse my FAQ below.
What should I wear?
I always advocate wearing whatever makes you feel most comfortable. The more relaxed you feel, the nicer the photos will look, so it’s best to wear something that you feel good in. You are more than welcome to have a change of clothes ready, if you want to try out a few different looks!
I feel pretty anxious about being on camera.
Don't worry, a lot of people feel like that! Part of my mission as the photographer is to try and put you at ease. I begin all my shoots with a consultation, with the express aim of helping you relax. Usually we'll grab a drink somewhere or sit in a park, and just chill out for a while.
There are also plenty of ways I can help once the shoot has begun. For example, if you feel unsure about how to stand or what to do with your hands, I will be there to guide you. I always make sure to check in with you regularly if I'm posing you, to make sure that no pose feels too awkward for you.
If you think you're going to find the photoshoot quite difficult, why not bring along something you can do with your hands? Fidget spinners, knitting, or even a paperclip to twiddle with can give you something to focus on that isn't my camera!
What's the deal with the Standard Rate and the Reduced Rate?
I offer two different rates because I want my photography to be accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial situation.
If you are able to pay the standard rate I ask that you please pay it, as this helps keep me afloat. However I understand that not everyone will be able to afford this and so I also offer a reduced rate, covering exactly the same services. If you are using the reduced rate, I ask that in exchange you help promote my business in non-financial ways - eg. post reshares, reviews, recommendations.
