I favour a natural style for my portrait photography, most commonly using outdoor spaces and natural lighting. Posed photos can be lovely, but I think emotion is what makes a truly gorgeous portrait. I prefer to capture people laughing, reacting to one another or lost in a particular moment in time. Past sessions have included a 60s-style photoshoot in a laundrette with a dance group, a hike up a mountain for some adventurous couple's photography, and a two month long project which involved me taking portraits of people through their windows while they were stuck at home during the covid-19 pandemic.
One of my main priorities when I take photos is to ensure that my clients feel comfortable. I understand that being in front of a camera can feel anxiety inducing, which is why I take the time to get to know you and help you relax. All my photo sessions begin with a 30 minute consultation. This gives us the time to get comfortable around each other, will help me understand more about who you are and what you want from your photographs, and also gives you a space to talk through any specific anxieties you might have about being on camera.
I like to refer to my family portraits as "Chosen Family Sessions" because I know that family can take many different forms, and can sometimes include far more than just the people you're related to! These sessions cover everything from couples, throuples, children and parents; photoshoots with your friends or housemates; photos of a group or community you're part of; and even pet photography!
My headshot and professional sessions take a personal approach to representing your brand. I'm not the kind of photographer who's going to insist on taking that very formal, corporate looking photo against a plain white background; instead I prefer to use the environment around you to create something which looks natural and authentic. I firmly believe that professional photographs can have a creative and personable feel to them - especially if you're a small business owner, or someone working in a creative field.
Above all, I like to make sure I take the time to get to know you and your brand. Before a session you'll usually find me asking questions about what you do professionally, who your customers are, and how you like to approach your work. I'll also (with your consent!) take a look through you socials and website to get a sense of how your business feels. All of this is used to tailor my services to you, and ensure I'm creating something that you want. Previous sessions have included headshots for a web-designer, lockdown photos of a coffee company, and a cosy home session with the owner of a knitware shop - the vibe really does vary from session to session!
