Bristol Trans Portraits: Exhibition!

June usually brings quite a lot of excitement for me - it features my birthday, Pride Month and usually some very nice weather! But this June has been extra special, because my first ever solo exhibition is on display all month!

The Bristol Trans Portraits Pride Month Exhibition, in collaboration with Bristol Pride and St George's Bristol

In collaboration with St George's Bristol and Bristol Pride, a selection of portraits from my Bristol Trans Portraits project will be on display up until July 10th! I'm so happy about this, because having these photographs on display has always been a goal for the project; Bristol Trans Portraits is about visibility, and an exhibition will allow so many more people to engage with the images. It's also a pretty fabulous way to celebrate Pride Month!

St George's also holds a real connection to Bristol Trans Portraits. At the start of the year, I did a wonderful photoshoot with Mair in the main hall at St George's – this has formed part of an ongoing series documenting the effects of HRT, so we’ll also be back there to take more photographs in the future! Exhibiting the work in the same space that some of the images were taken feels really special, so I'm really pleased with how everything has all come together!

Movement workshop with TIM LYTC

For the first time ever, I'm also trying my hand at event programming! I have two events planned as part of the exhibition - and Bristol Pride more broadly! The first is a Movement Workshop for trans and non-binary folks with TIM LYTC - a multi-disciplinary dance artist and former participant of the project. It's going to be a really open and chill workshop, which will explore different ways of thinking about the body, and of moving! If you're trans/non-binary and would like to come along, you can find more details and book a space here! It's Pay What You Can!

The second event will be a panel discussion - and I'm a lot more nervous about this one as I'm also going to be featuring on the panel! Hosted by the first Bristol Trans Portraits participant, Maddie Coward, and featuring me, Siân Amekuedi and Tim Lo as panelists, we'll be discussing the project, and visibility more broadly - does it help or does it hinder? I'm excited and nervous for this one in equal measure, but I suspect it's going to be a lot of fun!

I'll leave the exhibition and event details below - make sure you get in a visit at least once this Pride Month!!!
