It’s been a pretty odd twelve months. In February last year, I was gearing up for my first ever photography exhibition, Home: a collaboration between myself and my mum, scheduled to be on show throughout April at LAND Gallery in Pawling, NY. As I’m sure you can imagine, it was pretty disappointing when that exhibition had to be cancelled because of covid-19.
After that, the rest of my year went surprisingly well from a photography perspective; I started two new projects – Through Your Window, followed by Bristol Trans Portraits – which have not only been personally fulfilling but have given me a much better understanding of where I want to go and what I want to achieve as a photographer. Even so, it’s still a little sad to think about the missed opportunity of my ill-fated first exhibition.
Which is why I now bring EXCITING NEWS!
I’m really delighted to say that LAND Gallery is giving me another opportunity to exhibit my work! My new exhibition Abstract City opens on the 6th of March and will be on display in the gallery until the 2nd of May!
Abstract City features recent land and city-scapes, all taken in Bristol over the course of the past year. In this collection I use minimalism and abstraction to distort the familiar, creating a patchwork story of a city which feels recognisable, yet at the same time alien. The exhibition will also feature a small selection of images from the Bristol Trans Portraits project, emphasising the more social side of my work.
I’m so, so excited to have a collection of my photography on display, even if I won’t be able to see it in person! Fortunately there will be a virtual exhibition, and for those of you who want to support my work but, like me, can’t travel all the way to New York, I’ll also be setting up an Etsy shop to coincide with the opening! There will be postcards, giftcards and hopefully a few prints for sale – plus some of my older work! Any profits I make will be going straight into my top surgery fund, so I’d like to say thank you in advance to anyone who purchases anything.
